The Executive Board (EB) is responsible to the General Assembly (GA). In addition to overseeing the operations of ICSU, it provides advice and direction on priorities to the GA, taking into consideration the recommendations of the appropriate Committees. The EB also implements and communicates ICSU’s policies and views between sessions of the GA.
The Executive Board meets at least once a year, and can be convened by a decision of the President if there is a matter of urgency, provided at least 30 days’ notice is given. It is assisted by the Secretariat, which is responsible for the day-to-day work of ICSU. This Secretariat is directed by an Executive Director appointed by the Executive Board on the recommendation of the Officers. In the event of a vacancy among the Ordinary Members of the Executive Board, the Officers have the power to fill the vacancy for the unexpired term.
For the Terms of Reference of the Executive Board, see Statutes 25-30 in ICSU Statutes and Rules of Procedure.
